Better Prisons for Nigeria
Nigerian Prisons have several problems:
1. Overcrowded
2. People are held there for years without trial
3. Extra-judicials killings by the cops
4. Society does not believe that prisons actually work. So they prefer jungle justice to sending people there
5. No food provided to prisoners
6. People get imprisoned and never released because their cases are lost
I propose a solution. Rather than...
Fixing the police problem
The Nigerian Police Force is hopelessly corrupt. The corruption starts at the bottom and it goes all the way to the top. The few good policemen do have a chance against the army of corruption facing them. I propose a solution.
Reforming the federal police force
The first priority of the nigerian policemen should be to get rid of all bad eggs. Once the good cops are left, the force will work...

Why Nigeria should never have a welfare state
Many european countries run social systems. This means that everyone in the country is basically guaranteed a minimum income, a place to live and enough food to survive. I believe that this should never happen in Nigeria.
Why?
A social state is not only positive. It has some very strong negatives as well. First of all, the first victim of social economies is the family. When the state takes care...
How To Remove Fuel Subsidy Without Problems →
Nice blog post by Oo Nwoye.
The inflation problem
Inflation is high right now in Nigeria because the nigerian government is allowing too much oil dollars get into the hands of individuals. Yes, that’s what causes inflation. People having too much cash. A somewhat painful solution for this: The nigerian budget for the next two years should almost solely be used to hire foreign companies to build & fix roads, build bridges, set up power...

How the national ID card can be done 30 billion...
The nigerian government is about to start a national ID card system. This system would cost N30 billion and would apparently be a way of gathering the information of all Nigeria. This is an unnecessary expenditure, it can be done much cheaper. Step 1: Collecting the data. Most of the data needed for the ID card program is already available. The data set from the INEC excercise, the data set from...
Don't end fuel subsidies, watch the borders!
Economies are driven by people who have money to invest in small businesses. The income is then used to educate people, who go on to make even more businesses. For this to happen, a number of nigerians need to have money in their pocket. That’s what the fuel subsidy does - it increases the amount of cash available to a wide number of people. It also makes electricity and transportation...
Making nigerian streets clean
There is a simple way to keep nigerian streets clean, and at the same time provide a basic form of social services. Allocate rubbish bins (the big plastic ones) to the poorest people in society. Every person can apply, the rubbish bins are allocated based on a random lottery. At the end of every day, the Government buys the full rubbish bin from the ‘owner’ for N1000 at the central...
How transportation can be made better in Nigeria
The nigerian state governments should set a guideline for transportation vehicles. These guidelines should include the following: - Maximum number of passengers (should be as many passengers as seatbelts) - Painting (cars should not be scratched) - Panel beating (no dented cars) - Complete lights, Trafficators, etc - No black smoke coming out of the back - No broken windows All states should have...
What Nigerian Banks should do
The problem with nigerian banks is that it’s not clear how they are earning their money. A bank is supposed to invest in large capital projects, and earn large returns from these projects. I do not know that Nigerian banks are doing so. When there are banks that the directors are worth billions, then there is certainly something wrong. Banks are strongly tied in with the economy of a...
The security problem in Nigeria
This is how best I think that the security situation can be solved. The core problem in Nigeria is the inefficiency of the police force in investigating incidents for one, and secondly attacking criminal spots. Now, the governor of my state, Akpabio, suggested state police, as many other people have suggested. His core argument was that federal police are not promoted or rewarded based on merit....
A fix for the nigerian prison crisis
To solve the nigerian prison problem (overcrowding, imprisonment without trial), I believe that the government should look to the past. Prisoners convicted of crimes who will serve 10 years or more, and who are physically fit should be transferred to help build a prison village, on land that will be purchased in the grasslands of Nigeria. These prisoners should physically and manually build a new...
Fixing the power problem by decentralizing power
Nigeria faces an electricity crisis, even as millions of megawatts go wasted everyday. In cities all over the country, generators are powered on that are used at 20% to 30% capacity. The remaining 70% could be pumped into the grid, and could supply a lot of people with electricity.
In many countries (like germany), the dynamic part of power is supplied by hydro-carbon based generators. The...
